School Council

Our school council is a vital tool for us to understand the views of children across the school, as well as an opportunity for children to contribute to the life and development of the school, share their views, learn about how meetings work and how they can make decisions collaboratively.

The school council is made up of representatives from each class from years 1 to 6. At the beginning of each academic year, children who wish to stand for election in years 1 to 5 share a manifesto with their class, who then vote on who they would like to represent them.

The school council is led by the Children’s Senior Leadership team from year 6, who are selected by application letter and interview. They are responsible for setting the agendas for meetings, as well as chairing the meetings and taking minutes, with the support of a member of staff. They also meet with the headteacher to communicate the school council’s views and proposals.

Recently, they have focused on areas such as extra-curricular clubs, school trips, how the playground is organised and fundraising opportunities. On a termly basis the children's leadership team meet with Miss Mair to share ideas and agree strategies on how these ideas can be realised. School governors also invited to attend meetings and share ideas.
