Year 2

Picture 1

Welcome to Year 2!

Year 2

Year 2 is an exciting year with lots of challenge for the children.

In Year 2 we are starting to become more independent learners; continuing to develop our skills in reading, writing and maths through collaboration and discussion. As Year 2 progresses, we work towards preparing ourselves to showcase our very best in our end of year national SATs tests. We use a topic based approach to learning; this allows us to become immersed in our learning through visits to some of the amazing historical, scientific and artistic surrounding our local area.

We gain a greater understanding of a range of Mathematical concepts through the use of WAGOLLs (What a good one looks like) and problem solving. We consolidate our knowledge of phonics and continue to apply these skills across our reading and writing. These vital skills prepare us for the challenges of Year 3 and help ensure a smooth transition to continue our learning journey.

As Part of our Topic on Victorians, we went to Fulham Palace. We loved building dens in the sunshine and experienced what life would have been like in a Victorian household.

Learning about the Great Fire of London in History was brilliant! The rain didn't stop us enjoying our trip to the Great Fire of London Monument, Pudding Lane, St Paul's and the Museum of London.

Visiting the Army Museum during Science Week was really interesting! We loved exploring all the interactive galleries and enjoyed experimenting with different materials to build waterproof dens in our workshop.

It was such a treat to go to Wagamama this half term! We have been learning all about the world so it was interesting to try a different cuisine to our own. We got to try different juices, measured out the food we ate and even got a goodie bag! Lucky us!

When we visited Kew Gardens we explored the colourful Colombia orchid display and learnt all about the different plants and animals that grow in various climates! We also put our investigating skills to use in our Mini beasts workshop; exploring different bugs we found and learning how food cycles work.
