At John Betts, we believe all pupils should have the opportunity to learn to the best of their capabilities through a broad, balanced, inclusive but most importantly, exciting curriculum.
Listening, appraising, composing and performing form the four strands of the music curriculum. Children build strong foundations of the inter-related dimensions of music in Key Stage one and continue to build upon and incorporate these skills into all areas of music making at John Betts. Their units of work are often cross themed through other subjects, events or cultural celebrations.
Music is accessed by all pupils and delivered with a belief that with practise, one can achieve above and beyond! Enjoyable music promotes altruistic behaviours, a deeper understanding of humankind, community, connection and a sense of self-belief amongst our pupils. By providing a high-quality bespoke curriculum, children at John Betts are taken on a journey of personal growth, achievement, hope and ambition.
Music is associated with variety, breadth, success and a love of learning new concepts. Outside the classroom we currently offer weekly choir, orchestra for those already learning an instrument, steel pan and African drumming. We enrich further by having musical visitors to school, attending professional concerts and providing many opportunities to perform within the community.
