At John Betts Primary School, we believe that all our children have an equal entitlement, and should have an equal opportunity to achieve success academically, socially and physically no matter what their background. 

What is the Pupil Premium?

The school receives funding from the Government to support it in trying to meet this aspiration. This is known as the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG). John Betts Primary School will ensure that the Pupil Premium funding allocated to the school is used to have an impact on narrowing the gap between our disadvantaged pupils and their peers of similar ability. 

Pupil Premium is additional funding, from the Government, provided to schools for supporting more pupils from low income families to ensure they benefit from the same opportunities as all other children. There are different categories of children that qualify for pupil premium: 

• Children who are or have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) over the last six years (Ever 6) 

• Looked after children 

• Armed forces children (Ever 5)

• Children who have been adopted from care under the Adoption Children Act 2002

• Children who have left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order

How do we spend this at John Betts School?

It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils for whom they are responsible. Schools have the freedom to spend the Premium, which is additional to the underlying schools budget, in a way they think will best support the raising of attainment for the most vulnerable pupils.

We are committed to ensuring that every pupil does the very best they can. We consider that all members of our school community are committed to raising standards and narrowing attainment gaps for our pupils.

We seek to ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all the pupils and that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed.

How do we track the progress to make sure that our spending makes a difference?

We monitor the progress of our children entitled to pupil premium funding extra-closely to ensure that we are spending our money wisely. We use our own data systems alongside local authority information and national sources of information such as Analyse School Performance (ASP) and Ofsted. 

What are we doing this year?

At John Betts we believe that ensuring our teachers are appropriately qualified, highly trained, motivated and caring individuals -and that our support staff are provided with the best professional development opportunities- is pivotal to providing every child with the best opportunity to succeed. 

How do we check our methods are successful?

We use our own school level data that allows us to keep a close eye on every pupil group and each individual child. We also use local authority and official government data; this enables us to track our pupils and endeavour to narrow achievement gaps.

Sports Premium Grant 2022-23

What is Sports Premium Grant?

The Sports Premium Grant is additional funding from the Government to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. 

The grant should be used to develop or add to the PE, physical activity and sport activities that school already offer and build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years. It is also for improving the health and wellbeing of primary pupils.

How much is the Sports Premium Grant?

At John Betts, we received £17,750 for the year 2022-23.

The use of the Sports Premium Grant is monitored and reviewed by Governors at their termly meetings.
