PTA

Welcome to

We are fortunate to have a PTA at John Betts that is, and has always been, an integral part of the school community. In its time the PTA has raised money for a whole range of projects, as well as to support the general needs of the school. Please visit our dedicated website for details about our current activities.

The PTA is not just about raising money but it’s also there to support the school in the provision of an education that has the children at the heart of it. The PTA, with the support of the parents and carers, is there to provide strong links between home and school, bringing the community together to support the children’s education.

All John Betts families are automatically members of the PTA. Together we run fundraising events and activities to raise money for educational resources. We want as many people involved as possible; whether it’s coming up with ideas, helping out, joining in or simply enjoying what’s organised, we want our fundraising efforts to also bring people together and build on the school’s fantastic community spirit.

Each year the amount of money raised will vary depending on needs and projects. The PTA committee work with the Headteacher to understand the needs of the school and adapt fundraising plans to achieve what is required.

In the past PTA fundraising has been used for:

  • a fully equipped teaching kitchen
  • repair costs for the school roof
  • the Wellbeing Garden
  • interactive whiteboards in every classroom
  • school playground equipment
  • new laptops for classrooms
  • PE equipment

The PTA is extremely conscious of the ethos and diversity of our school, and we try very hard when organising and planning events to respect this. We aim to deliver a calendar of events that appeal across the community, to both parents and children.

Our PTA committee generally consists of four primary officers: Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. There are also members committed to event organising and leading fundraising activity. A recent focus has seen the addition of someone to spearhead our commitment to promoting social responsibility where uniform is concerned and this has led to the introduction of a Nearly New boutique. We also have Class Reps for every year group which make up the full committee.

The PTA holds meetings once a term, at which both the Headteacher and a representative from the Governors give updates. Each class has two Reps. Their responsibilities include; organising reading rotas, volunteers for trips and coordination of help at PTA events such as Summer and Christmas Fairs.

How can I get involved?
Donate your time: Help the class reps by offering to help with events such as the Home Bake sales, and Christmas and Summer Fairs. Come to the PTA meetings and share your ideas, experiences, skills and enthusiasm. We really can’t achieve what we do without the behind the scenes help that we receive.

Use www.easyfundraising.org.uk: By signing up to easyfundraising.org.uk every purchase you make online through their website means a donation for the school.  Follow the link to get started and sign up today: www.easyfundraising.org.uk

Direct voluntary contributions: The school welcomes voluntary direct debit donations from parents and carers either via a standing order payment or via an individual one off payment. Please check our "Future Funding and Finance" page for further information.

Join the committee or be a class rep: Every year parents and carers volunteer to work on the PTA committee and be class representatives for their year group. The committee is voted at the first PTA meeting of each academic year and class reps are looked for by existing reps in the summer term.
