Year 2 is an exciting year with lots of challenges for the children.
In Year 2 we are starting to become more independent learners; continuing to develop our skills in reading, writing and maths through collaboration and discussion. As Year 2 progresses, we work towards preparing ourselves to begin Key Stage 2. We become immersed in our learning through visits to some of the amazing historical, scientific and artistic places in our local area, including the Saatchi Gallery and the Tower of London.
We consolidate our knowledge of phonics through Little Wandle spelling lessons and continue to apply these skills across our reading and writing. We focus on our fluency in reading and write across a range of genres in writing. We secure our letter formation through daily handwriting practice, and begin to star joining some of our letters. We gain a greater understanding of mathematical concepts and apply our skills using manipulatives and visual representations. These vital skills prepare us for the challenges of Year 3 and help ensure a smooth transition to continue our learning journey.
